Health insurance for individuals and families

One option for individuals needing health insurance for themselves and/or their family is to buy it on the Health Insurance Marketplace.

The Marketplace was created with the passage of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) which was passed in 2010. The law went into effect on January 1, 2012 with the first open enrollment starting November 1, 2012 and ending on December 15, 2012.

You should consider buying your health insurance on the Marketplace if you have preexisting medical conditions or if you qualify for a health insurance premium subsidy.

For those individuals who qualify, the government provides a subsidy to offset the cost of health insurance. You may qualify for a subsidy that covers the entire cost of your health insurance.
